Red Meat that has been produced to a recognised EN45011 assurance standard that has been independently audited at each stage of the supply chain is now a base requirement for caterers in the public sector and both the BPEX and EBLEX Quality Standard Marks along with the Red Tractor standard for beef, lamb and pork will ensure that the required standards for animal welfare, food safety, food hygiene and eating quality are delivered as standard to the school meal. Equally we have work closely with the Muslim community on the development of assurance schemes for Halal meat.

With red meat a useful source for iron, zinc and Vitamin D is the perfect protein foundation for a balanced meal. The development of school meal ideas ranging from value for money roasting joints through casseroles, pies, hand-held convenience foods and on into accompaniments for popular carbohydrates such as pasta, rice and potatoes is central to the work of BPEX and EBLEX.
